Women's Volleyball Earns 3-0 Victory Over Hofstra

HAMILTON, N.Y. – On the heels of an epic five-set victory last night, the Princeton University women's volleyball team made it three wins from as many matches at the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament as the Tigers overcame Hofstra University 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-23) at Cotterell Court Saturday afternoon.
Junior Elena Montgomery continued her sensational play, leading the match in kills with 20 on a .447 hitting percentage. Junior Lindsey Kelly had a double-double, leading the match in assists with 35 and the team in digs with 12. Leading the Tigers in blocks was senior Julia Schner, who tied her season-high with five.
Princeton began the match on a high note, as a Montgomery kill sparked a 5-0 run. Ahead 11-5, another kill by Montgomery led a 4-0 run that saw the Tigers take a 15-6 lead which they would maintain the remainder of the set, holding on to win 25-15.
The second stared with a Montgomery kill followed by consecutive kills by Schner, as the Tigers carried their momentum over from the opening set. Up 16-9, a kill by Montgomery set Princeton on a 7-0 run that gave it a comfortable 23-9 advantage. The Tigers ultimately won the set, 25-10.
Hofstra was determined to claw itself back into the contest in the third set, tying it up 10-10 in the third set. Tied at 13-13, a Montgomery service ace followed by a Montgomery kill gave Princeton a 15-13 advantage from which it would not look back; the Tigers would go on to win the set 25-23 and earn the 3-0 victory over the Pride.
