Women’s Swimming and Diving Win Two Duals in Dominating Fashion

PRINCETON, N.J. – On Senior Day, the Princeton University women's swimming and diving team went 2-0 in duals on the day, successfully preserving their perfect record. The Tigers thrashed Columbia 189-99, while defeating Navy 168.5-129.5.
vs Columbia
The Tigers went one-two three in both the 50 back and 50 free, with Alexa Pappas (25.22), Nikki Venema (25.82) and Isabella Korbly (25.93) clinching the first three spots in the backstroke while Christina Bradley (22.81), Ellie Marquardt (23.65) and Margaux McDonald (24.54) swept the freestyle.
Bradley's time of 22.81 ties her for sixth all-time in school history, along with Maddy Veith '18.
Princeton found success in the free style events, as Amelia Liu earned first place in both the 100 (51.06) and 200 free (1:50.13). Nathalie Valdman also competed in the 200 free, taking second with a time of 1:50.71. Valdman (4:57.19) touched first in the 500 free, followed by Macey Mannion (5:01.01) in second place.
The Tigers dominated in both breaststroke events as well. Vivian Wang secured first place in the 50 breast (29.30), beating out teammate Jaime Chen (29.33) by three one-hundredths of a second, while Margaux McDonald (1:03.03) touched first in the 100 breast and Liza Whitmire (1:05.85) placed third.
The 50 and 100 butterfly told a similar story, with Christina Bradley (24.53) taking first and Alexa Pappas (25.25) taking third in the 50 fly, while Jess Yeager (54.70) and Jennifer Secrest (56.21) went one-two in the 100 fly.
Rounding out the last couple individual events, Nikki Venema (57.50) and Jennifer Secrest (57.72) finished two-three in the 100 IM, as did Isabella Korbly (56.98) and (Vivian Wang) 57.61 in the 100 backstroke. Finally, in the 300 IM, it was Ellie Marquardt (3:09.79) who touched first, followed by Emily Appleton (3:14.06) in third place.
In the relay events, Princeton performed admirably. The Tigers finished one-two in the 200 medley relay, the team of Alexa Pappas, Vivian Wang, Jaime Chen and Christina Bradley (1:41.51) just edging out the team of Isabella Korbly, Margaux McDonald, Nikki Venema and Jennifer Secrest (1:42.14).
In the 200 free relay, the quartet of Amelia Liu, Macey Mannion, Jennifer Secrest and Nathalie Valdman (1:36.03) placed second.
Lastly, freshman Maddie Seltzer earned first place in both the 1-meter (247.80) and 3-meter dives (291.15).
vs Navy
The Tigers secured two one-two-three finishes against Navy, with Alexa Pappas (54.46), Isabella Korbly (55.48) and Margaux McDonald (55.49) sweeping the 100 back, while in the 500 free, Ellie Marquardt (4:47.28), Nathalie Valdman (4:55.15) and Emily Appleton (4:57.57) clinched the first three spots.
Princeton remained dominant in freestyle events, with Amelia Liu taking first in the 50 free (23.28) and Nikki Veneman taking first in the 100 free (49.72). Amelia Liu also competed in the 100 free, finishing third (50.88).
Meanwhile, in the 200 free, Nikki Venema (1:48.82) came in second place, followed by Nathalie Valdman (1:49.84) in third. Finally, it was Ellie Marquardt (9:53.83) and Emily Appleton (10:05.93) finishing one-two in the 1000 free.
The butterfly events were also a success, with Christina Bradley touching first in the 100 fly (53.41) and Jess Yeager touching first in the 200 fly (1:59.66). Bradley swam in the 200 fly as well, placing third (2:01.83).
Wrapping up the last few individual events, Margaux McDonald earned first place in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.91), Isabella Korbly secured second place in the 200 backstroke (2:00.82), and Jess Yeager (2:02.19) and Jaime Chen (2:06.25) finished first and third in the 200 IM.
The relay events were another bright spot for the Tigers, with the team of Alexa Pappas, Vivian Wang, Christina Bradley and Nikki Venema (1:40.67) beating out the team of Isabella Korbly, Jaime Chen, Jess Yeager and Jennifer Secrest (1:42.00) for first place in the 200 medley relay.
In the 400 free relay, the foursome of Amelia Liu, Christina Bradley, Ellie Marquardt and Nikki Venema (3:22.28) touch first, while the foursome Jennifer Secrest, Vivian Wang, Nathalie Valdman and Macey Mannion (3:28.77) placed third.
Finally, Maddie Seltzer secured second place in both the 1-meter (270.75) and the 3-meter dives (285).
Next up: The Tigers will be on the road in New Haven, Connecticut for HYPS from January 28th to January 29th.
