Men’s Volleyball Comes Up Just Short Against Daemen, 3-2

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University men's volleyball team came up just short against Daemen College Sunday afternoon inside Dillon Gymnasium, 3-2 (25-16, 25-21, 18-25, 18-25, 15-12).
Sophomore Ben Harrington led the Tigers in kills with 15 and the match in service aces with five, while first year Henry Wedbush handed out a team-high 28 assists. Senior Parker Dixon and Wedbush tied for the team-high in blocks with three, while first year Matt Suh tied the match-high in digs with 10.
Sparked by a first year Nyherowo Omene kill, the Tigers used a 3-0 run to race out to a 5-1 lead. The Wildcats would later bounce back, using a 6-0 run to surge ahead, 20-15. While Thompson's fifth kill halted the run, Daemen held on to prevail in the set, 25-16.
The Tigers jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the second set following a Harrington service ace, but the Wildcats used a 3-0 run to knot the score, 8-8. The set continued as a back-and-forth battle until Daemen used a late 6-0 run to take set point, 24-20, then the second set, 25-21.
Princeton bounced back in the third set, using a 3-0 run to take an early 6-3 advantage. The Tigers would later use a 4-0 run to surge ahead, 18-10, following a kill by sophomore Josh Coan. Back-to-back Harrington aces gave the Tigers a 21-11 lead, then the set, 25-18, following a solo block by senior Parker Dixon.
Daemen raced out to a 4-1 lead in the fourth set and took control early. A Dixon kill narrowed the deficit to two points at 8-6, then a Henry Wedbush solo block capped a 3-0 run, knotting the score at 12-12. A Hartley kill sparked a 7-0 run that gave the Tigers a 23-16 advantage, and they would go on to win the set with a final score of 25-18.
While the Wildcats took a 2-1 lead in the fifth set, it continued as a back-and-forth battle. A Hartley kill knotted the score, 8-8, but Daemen would take a 12-10 advantage and a Tiger timeout followed. Daemen's momentum carried over to the final points of the match, winning the fifth set 15-12, and the match 3-2.
