Men's Ice Hockey Beats Brown, 6-1
January 28, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
PRINCETON – Princeton completed the season sweep of Brown with a 6-1 win at Hobey Baker Rink, breaking wide open a game that was scoreless through the opening period.
Adam Robbins had a career-high two goals, while Corey Andonovski and Spencer Kersten each had a goal and an assist in the win. Ian Murphy tied his career high with two assists. Overall, 11 different Tigers had at least one point as Princeton (5-11-2) secured its first win at home this season and improved to 4-6-1 in the ECAC.
The Tigers now have secured ECAC points in three of their last four games (2-1-1) and moved into eighth place in the standings.
Princeton's six goals tie its season-high, achieved twice this season in wins at Yale and Brown in November.
After the two teams were scoreless after one period, Adam Robbins struck first 2:08 into the second period to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Nick Carabin started the play with a seemingly innocuous rim around the boards, but Robbins picked up the puck on the half wall and then walked to the slot where he snapped a low shot inside the left post for his third goal of the season.
Spencer Kersten doubled Princeton's lead with 8:35 left in the second. Ian Murphy forced a Brown turnover in the corner, and the puck found Kersten open at the top of the circle for a quick snap shot that went under the bar and in.
The Bears responded just over two minutes later with a long-range wrister from Samuli Niinisaari, but that was the only blemish on a 20-save night for Jeremie Forget.
The Tigers took advantage of a power play early in the second to extend their lead back to a pair. Just after a brief 5-on-3 ended, Noah de la Durantaye corralled a loose puck and circled the zone before stepping toward goal and beating Mathieu Caron top corner just 0:52 into the third period.
That goal started a four-goal third period as the Tigers pulled away.
Corey Andonovski added insurance 7:04 into the final frame, slipping wide open alone in the slot and quickly sending home an Ian Murphy cross-ice pass.
Just past the midway point of the third, Mark Paolini benefited from a strong pinch by defense partner Matthew Thom to make it 5-1. Thom and Christian O'Neill bore down and Brown's defense, and Thom then worked a pass back to Paolini who was alone at the point with plenty of room to skate in and score.
Robbins capped the night with his second goal, going to the net and capitalizing on a strong drive from Nick Seitz which drew defenders and left Robbins with enough room to slip a second shot by Caron with 4:00 left in the game.
Princeton is home for a pair of games next weekend, hosting RPI (February 4) and Union (February 5) at 7 p.m.
