Colgate Pulls Away Late in Tigers' Season Opener
October 28, 2022 | Women's Ice Hockey
Three third-period goals opened up what was a one-goal game headed into that final frame and allowed No. 4 Colgate to a 5-1 win over No. 10 Princeton in the first game of the 2022-23 season Friday night at Baker Rink.
The game began a season-long celebration of 100 Years of Hobey Baker Rink, and it was also the women's program's annual Blackout Baker event. The team honored junior Sarah Fillier with a print in recognition of her accomplishments during her time away from Princeton since last suiting up for the program in 2020, including two IIHF World Championships and an Olympic gold medal with Canada.
It was Fillier who got Princeton on the board with less than five minutes to go in the first period after Maggie Connors won the puck behind Colgate netminder Kayle Osborne and found Fillier at the top of the faceoff circle for the tying goal.
Fillier's goal came less than two minutes after Colgate's Kaitlyn O'Donohoe opened the scoring with six-plus minutes left in the opening period. Sydney Bard regained the lead for the Raiders with eight-plus minutes gone in the second period, and Sara Stewart, Neena Brick and O'Donohoe scored in the third to open up the lead.
Princeton will host Cornell Saturday at 6 p.m. to close out the weekend. Tickets are available here.
