November 06, 2022 | Women's Rugby
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Princeton University women's rugby team hosted Long Island University Sunday in its final regular season contest of its inaugural fall campaign at the varsity level.
Â
The contest was played as three sevens matches, and along with it being a Pride Game, it was also Senior Day. The Tigers honored the Class of 2023 consisting of Kristen Ahner, Hadley Clayton, Julia Douvas and Kathryn-Alexa Kennedy with a short ceremony on the field.
Â
"It was a great morning of rugby exhibiting our strengths, which we have been building upon all season," said Head Coach Josie Ziluca. "This is a tough group and this was an exciting look at what our spring season has in store. Today was also a beautiful finale to a brutal and memorable first season competing with other established varsity programs. We've learned a lot and it's only going to get better"
Â
Match One
The Sharks took a 14-0 lead at the half, but Sofie Grouws and Amelia Clarke scored for the Tigers in the second half. The final score was 14-10, in LIU's favor.
Â
Match Two
While the Tigers trailed 19-0 at the half, Alayshja Bable scored in the second half to make it a 24-7 final.
Â
Match Three
With the score tied 0-0 at halftime, Bable scored her second try of the day and made the conversion in the second half. The match ended a 7-7 tie.
