Tigers Score Program Record 91 Points, Shut Out LIU In Home Opener Victory

PRINCETON, N.J. – Scoring a program record 91 points, the Princeton women's rugby team defeated LIU, 91-0, in its home opener on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, Princeton improves to 2-0 on the season - its best starting record since becoming a varsity program.
Malinka Kwemo and Myah Natorp led the Tigers with four tries apiece. Lindsey Mulligan added two, and Ava Gregory, Annie Huettel and Lehua Harris each added one to the Tiger tally.
"For us, this week was about being consistent. After last week's performance, we felt that we're gaining and building some confidence as a team. Coming into today, we just wanted to reiterate that and see if we can keep playing to our standards," said Head Coach Karameli Fa'ae'e. "I think today was a great step, getting almost everyone in off the bench and earning the shutout at home. The crowd really supported us today, and it was great to have such a strong showing in front of our family and friends. I'm really proud of our group, and they keep stepping it up every week."
How It Happened
The Tigers started the scoring early, with Gregory getting the first try of the match in the second minute.
In the 10th minute, Natorp scored her first of the day, with Kwemo converting. Just a few minutes later, Lehua pushed the ball over the line to score her first try of the season, and it was 19-0 Tigers within the first 15 minutes of action.
Kwemo was next to score with two back-to-back tries, first scoring after a breakaway run that saw her sprint from the 22m line. Just three minutes later, she scored again, making it 29-0.
Mulligan added one, before Natorp pushed through to score her second of the day. With Kwemo converting, it was 41-0 going into the half.
Picking up where they left off, the Tigers continued pushing ahead in the second half with Laura Barnds tallying her first try of the season.
Converting that kick, Kwemo got to work and scored her third try next, bringing the score to 60-0.
Huettel added a try, before Natorp completed her own hat trick with a try in the 60th minute. With Maizy Miller converting, the score was 72-0 with 20 left to play.
Kwemo and Natorp each scored their fourth tries as the match went into its final 10,
Mulligan was the last one to add to the final score, scoring with five to go as Miller's conversion made it 91-0.
The score marks a new program record, with the most points and largest margin of victory previously the Tigers' 59-0 win over Bowdoin in 2024.

The Tigers will remain at home to face West Chester next Saturday, Sept. 19, with kickoff slated for noon at Haaga House.
