Monday's No. 1 Leads Strong Showing in Early-Season Rankings
November 08, 2022 | Wrestling
As the Princeton wrestling team gets closer to its dual-match opener Nov. 18 at Indiana, national rankings are taking notice as all six 2022 NCAA qualifiers earned mention and the team's tournament ranking is closing in on the top 10.
Princeton finished 16th at the NCAA Championships last winter on the strength of 38 points, the most in program history. FloWrestling has Princeton at No. 11 in its team tournament ranking and InterMat and WIN have the Tigers at No. 12.
Senior 157-pounder Quincy Monday made the national finals last year and is the leading returner with a ranking reflective of that, as AWN, FloWrestling, InterMat and WIN all have Monday at No. 1. WrestleStat has Monday at No. 4
Fellow senior and 125-pounder Patrick Glory became Princeton's first NCAA finalist in 20 years last year - before Monday joined him later in the meet to give Princeton two finalists in the same year for the first time in program history - and has a No. 2 ranking from AWN, FloWrestling, InterMat, WrestleStat and WIN. Though Glory is the leading returner who competed at last year's NCAA Championships, Iowa's three-time NCAA champion Spencer Lee, who did not compete for much of last season due to injury, including the NCAAs, is ranked No. 1.
Sophomore 197-pounder Luke Stout, who won a bout last year at NCAAs, stands at No. 15 with AWN, No. 17 with InterMat, No. 18 with FloWrestling and No. 19 with WrestleStat.
Senior 149-pounder Marshall Keller holds a No. 29 ranking with WrestleStat while fellow 2022 NCAA qualifier, junior Matt Cover, is ranked No. 21 by InterMat, No. 31 by WrestleStat, and earned honorable mention from FloWrestling. An NCAA qualifier last year at 184, senior Travis Stefanik is competing at heavyweight this season, and WIN recognized him with a No. 15 ranking at 184.
Junior Nate Dugan, who was Princeton's EIWA entrant at 174 last year, opened his 2022-23 season with a finalist run at 184 at the Princeton Open last weekend. He earned honorable mention from FloWrestling at 184.
