Men's Hockey Blanks Union, 2-0
December 09, 2022 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton broke open a scoreless game through two periods, connecting twice in the final 8:02 to pull away for a 2-0 win over Union at Hobey Baker Rink.
Adam Robbins and Noah de la Durantaye scored for the Tigers, Robbins netting the game-winner just past the midway mark of the third before de la Durantaye added an insurance tally on the power play with 3:27 remaining.
Ethan Pearson made 22 saves for his fourth shutout of the season -- tied for No. 2 all-time in a season by a Princeton goalie and one away from the single-season mark.

The Tigers had the better of the opening half of the first period, but Union carried the final few minutes while forcing Pearson to make three saves in the final sixty seconds to send the game to the first intermission scoreless.
Â
In the second period, Princeton outshot the Dutchmen, 13-5, thanks to three power plays. Connor Murphy stood tall on all three for Union, keeping the game knotted at 0-0 through forty minutes.
Moments after the Tigers successfully killed a penalty for too many men on the ice -- including two big saves from Pearson -- Princeton went in transition via a Nick Carabin stretch pass which deflected off Tyler Rubin's stick to Nick Seitz who found fellow New Yorker Adam Robbins in the slot. Robbins saw his original shot denied and funneled wide, but he stuck with the play, gathered his own rebound and banked a shot off from behind the net off a Union defenseman and in for his first goal of the seasom.
Noah de la Durantaye doubled the lead with a high-blocker snipe midway through a power play. A gritty forecheck along the half wall saw Liam Gorman kick a puck back to Nick Carabin who slid a pass to a wide open de la Durantaye who snapped home his third goal of the season.
The Tigers return to action to close out a four-game homestand on December 10, hosting RPI at 7 p.m.
