Men’s Volleyball Notches Their Second Win of the Season

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's volleyball team defeated Saint Francis Brooklyn 3-1 (19-25, 27-25, 24-18, 25-20), Sunday afternoon inside the Genovesi Center.

Sophomore Ben Harrington lead the team with a career high 18 kills, along with a whopping .577 hitting percentage. Harrington also served a game high two aces. Meanwhile, junior Nate Thompson contributed a career high 17 kills. Senior Joe Kelly added season highs in both assists (42), and digs (14).

The first set was a back and forth affair which saw both Princeton and Saint Francis Brooklyn take control. Ben Harrington would make his impact early and often, coming up with a kill to make it 4-3, a tandem block to make it 7-6 and a service ace to make it 9-8. The momentum would swing toward the Terriers, at one point leading 19-15. The Tigers wouldn't be able to overcome such a deficit, falling 25-19 in the first set.

In the second set, it was first year Nyherowo Omene making his presence felt. Omene would tie the game up at three all and at eight all with some timely kills. The Tigers would eventually find themselves behind by four at 15-11. Princeton continued to fight, scratching and clawing their way back. It was Omene's time to shine again, tying the game up at 20 apiece. The Tigers would need overtime to pull away from the Terriers, winning the second set 27-25.

Princeton would build on their momentum from the second set and open up a 3-0 lead in the third set. That lead would eventually balloon to six at 10-4. The Tigers would rely on great defense and timely kills by Harrington and Nate Thompson the rest of the way, taking the third set 25-18.

With Princeton up two sets to win, the Tigers keep their foot on the gas. Omene would have a great fourth set performance and the orange and black opened up five point leads on a couple different occasions. The last and most important occasion was the final score of the fourth set, 25-20.

Today's win was the Tigers first win in EIVA conference play so far this season.
