Schenck, Tornetta, Yeager Represent Princeton With USA Field Hockey

Talia Schenck is a few weeks away from putting on her Princeton field hockey jersey for the first time. When the season ends, she will trade it in for one that says "USA" across the front.

Schenck is one of 57 players named to the United States U21 and Development Squad Selection Camp, which will be held this coming winter and will determine the roster for 2023. The final U-21 team will compete at the Junior Pan American Championships in Barbados next spring and possibly at the FIH Hockey Junior World Cup in December 2023 in Chile.

Schenck, who set a New Jersey high school record with 113 goals last season as a senior at Lawrence High, will be starting her freshman year at Princeton. Beth Yeager, a first-team All-American for the Tigers last year as a freshman, will also be competing at the camp, along with all members of the full national team who are still age-eligible.

In addition, Yeager, who has made 17 appearances for the full U.S. women's national team, and Princeton alum Juliana Tornetta, who has made 14 appearances, have been named to the U.S. team's 2022-23 roster as well. The two were among 38 players named to the squad after five days of evaluation earlier this month in Virginia.

Yeager set a Princeton freshman record with 16 goals a year ago, despite missing the final three games of the season due to injury. She was named the Ivy League Offensive Player of the Year and Ivy League Rookie of the Year in addition to her first-team All-American honor.

Training camp for the full U.S. team begins this weekend in Charlotte, N.C.

Princeton begins its season Sept. 2 and 4 when it plays North Carolina and Louisville in Chapel Hill. The Tigers will scrimmage on Tuesday, Aug. 23, against St. Joe's at 5 pm on Bedford Field, a change from the originally announced location in Philadelphia.
