January 10, 2023 | Men's Volleyball
AMHERST, N.Y. – The Princeton University men's volleyball team fell to Daemen College Tuesday night in Amherst, New York
3-1 (25-27, 25-19, 25-16, 25-22).
Junior Ben Harrington led the Tigers in kills with 16, and the match in service aces with four, while sophomore Henry Wedbush handed out 31 assists. Sophomore Nyherowo Omene led the team in blocks with three, while junior Nico Posivak came up with 9 digs for the Tigers.
Princeton started out strong, taking an early lead in the first set. A kill from Ben Harrington allowed Princeton to stay ahead 11-7. Daemen fought back and gained momentum to even the score at 24-24. Thanks to a duo of kills from Nate Thompson and Nyherowo Omene, Princeton was able to win set one, 27-25.
The Tigers remained neck and neck with Daemen throughout the second set, until the Wildcats managed to take a seven-point lead of 14-7. Kills from multiple Tigers like Ben Harrington, Henry Wedbush, James Hartley, and Nate Thompson all contributed to Princeton's scoring, but the team was unable to close the gap and fell to Daemen in set two, 25-19.
Tied at 1-1, the Tigers struggled to shut down the Wildcat's aggressive offense in set three. Princeton remained even with their opponent 5-5 early on, but once Daemen began a scoring surge that brought the Wildcats ahead 11-5, it was a tough task for the Tigers to take the lead. Although a service ace from Harrington brought the score to 19-12, Daemen held the advantage and won set three 25-16.
Ahead by one, Daemen continued to build momentum into the fourth set. A Wildcat scoring run found the Tigers down by 13-5. Despite the gap, Ben Harrington executed some huge, offensive plays for Princeton including 6 kills. Princeton's hard-fought efforts eventually lessened the point margin to four, at 20-16.
An exciting set that came down to the very last second of play, Princeton ultimately came up short against Daemen in the fourth, 25-22, giving Daemen the win over Princeton 3-1.
