Princeton Has Five Named USA Lacrosse Magazine Preseason All-Americans
January 12, 2023 | Men's Lacrosse
As hard as it might seem to believe, the Princeton men's lacrosse season begins five weeks from Saturday. The Tigers, coming off a trip to Championship Weekend to end the 2022 season, will begin 2023 with five preseason USA Lacrosse Magazine All-Americans.
Â
The best part of this Princeton team is that it's not that easy to pick the five All-Americans. This is a team with depth and balance, and any number of Tigers could have made the list.
Â
The five who did are midfielder Jake Stevens, a second-team selection, midfielder Sam English, a third-team selection, and honorable mention choices Pace Billings (LSM/D), Beau Pederson (SSDM) and Alex Slusher (attack).
Â
Stevens had a 22-goal, 24-point junior year, when he also had 65 ground balls and seven caused turnovers as an invaluable member of the face-off unit. English finished his season with 30 goals and 18 assists, with 27 ground balls and eight caused turnovers.
Â
Billings had a goal (in the NCAA tournament win over Boston University), two assists, 15 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers in his first season. He was also selected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team. Pederson was a third-team All-American last spring after having two goals, four assists, 27 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. Slusher led Princeton with 46 goals, the fifth-best single-season total in program history, and he also had 10 assists for 56 points, along with 23 ground balls and eight caused turnovers of his own.
Â
Princeton graduated a standout senior class but returns two starters on attack, all three first line offensive midfielders, three of its top four LSMs, four of its top five SSMDs and four players who started at least once on defense, as well as its top two face-off men.
Â
Princeton opens its season Feb. 18 at home against Monmouth. The Tigers will play 12 regular season games, eight of which will be at home.
