Men's Hockey Falls To LIU, 6-4
January 28, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
A four-goal outburst in the second period from visiting Long Island University flipped the game on its head as a 2-0 Princeton lead was washed away in a 6-4 defeat.
Â
Nick Seitz, Spencer Kersten, Ian Murphy and David Jacobs had Princeton's goals. Patriks Marcinkevics had two goals and an assist for the Sharks.
Â
The Tigers struck first 4:16 into the game, with Nick Seitz firing quickly off a clean faceoff win from Adam Robbins.
Â
Preston Brodziak scored the first of the game for the Sharks, pushing home the rebound of a Cade Mason shot 4:49 into the middle frame.
Â
The Tigers would counter just under two minutes later when Ian Murphy followed his own shot and slid home the rebound for an unassisted goal during 4-on-4 play at 6:46.
Â
Moments later, LIU netted a power-play goal when Patriks Marcinkevics took a cross-ice pass from Adam Goodsir and made it a 3-2 game with 6:42 left in the second period. He would strike again with 2:37 left in the period, taking a Daniel Baldassarra drop pass and firing high blocker.
Â
Just 1:12 later, Cade Mason fired home a PPG for the Sharks with a wrister from the point.
Â
The Tigers leveled the game at 4-4 early in the third via a David Jacobs power-play goal. LIU was called for a protocol violation at the end of the second period – the Sharks crossed the red line after the period ended to share some fistbumps with their goalie which is not permitted.
Â
Just before that penalty expired, Adam Robbins fed a pass to Jacobs alone at the top of the faceoff circle for a one-timer that went over the blocker and tied the game.
Â
The Tigers are playing all ECAC hockey the rest of the way, starting with a road trip to Hanover February 3 to take on Dartmouth at 8 p.m.
