Cronin Scores Twice In Loss To Colgate
November 17, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
A quick start from visiting Colgate was too much for Princeton to overcome in a 6-3 defeat at Hobey Baker Rink.
Â
Jack Cronin scored twice for his first career multi-goal game, while Brendan Gorman added two assists. Mike Kennedy had the third Princeton goal.
Â
Colgate jumped out in front with two goals in a span of 0:52 early in the first period and never looked back. Ryan McGuire scored 3:10 into the game, swiping home a rebound at the goalmouth, and Simon Labelle followed with a long rush and score just under a minute later.
Â
Jack Cronin momentarily breathed some life into the Hobey Baker Rink crowd with a one-timer on the powerplay 7:19 into the opening period. Brendan Gorman and Noah de la Durantaye had the assists on Cronin's slapper just under the crossbar.
Â
Colgate responded quickly and regained a two-goal lead with a Nike Rexine rebound goal just before the midway mark of the period.
Â
In the second period, the Raiders tacked on two more goals with McGuire and Labelle again connecting in succession for a 5-1 Colgate lead after 40:00 of play. McGuire scored 4:31 into the period, and Labelle redirected a Brett Chorske centering pass into the top corner.
Â
McGuire would complete his hat trick 0:36 into the third period, springing free at center ice and beating the last Princeton defender before tucking a shot under the crossbar.
Â
The Tigers pushed back in the final 13:00 of play, tallying twice via goals from Jack Cronin and Mike Kennedy.
Â
Cronin netted his second of the game with 13:03 left in the third, taking a David Jacobs pass and roofing a shot under the bar for his first career multi-goal game.
