November 18, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
This is becoming a habit.
Â
For the third time in four home games, Princeton picked up a thrilling overtime win as the Tigers (3-2-1, 3-2-1 ECAC) rallied and stunned No. 10 Cornell (4-3-1, 2-3-1 ECAC), 2-1, in front of a sold-out Hobey Baker Rink crowd. The last time a Princeton team has won three games in overtime during a regular season was the 2009-10 campaign -- all three of those wins coming at Hobey Baker Rink.
2019-20 team won three games in overtime, with two coming during the First Round of the ECAC Playoffs ar Dartmouth.
Â
Brendan Gorman finished off a furious final minute with the overtime winner with 0:06 left to ignite a raucous celebration.
Â
The Big Red took a 1-0 lead 7:54 into the second period via a Kyle Penney goal off a set faceoff play.
Â
The Tigers evened the score just over three minutes later when Adam Robbins weaved through the defense before ringing a wrister off the far post and in.
Â
Smith made one more big save with 1:30 left in the third period and turned away two more shots in overtime before Princeton turned the puck up ice in transition.
Â
Nick Carabin was a force on the forecheck, twice pinning the Big Red deep in their own end before a failed clearing attempt landed on the stick of Ian Murphy who funneled a behind-the-back pass to Gorman who snapped the game-winner under Koepple's arm and in to set off the third overtime celebration at Baker Rink in the last eight days.
Â
The Tigers head to Ohio State for two games over the Thanksgiving Break.
