Men's Hockey Comeback Comes Up One Goal Short At Ohio State
November 25, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton did everything it could to respond to an early three-goal deficit, but came up one goal short in a 4-3 loss at Ohio State.
Â
The Tigers trailed twice by three goals at 3-0 and 4-1, but a Joshua Karnish goal early in the third period brought Princeton back to within a goal. That was as close as the Tigers would come despite a furious push in the final three minutes.
Â
Ohio State jumped out to a quick lead, scoring twice in the first 4:00 of play en route to a 3-0 lead after one period of play.
Â
Patrick Guzzo opened the scoring 1:51 into the game, slipping open at the far post and tapping in a cross-ice pass.
Â
Just over two minutes later, Cam Thiesing found himself open at the other post, again free to tap in a loose puck for a 2-0 lead.
Â
The Buckeyes added a power-play goal at the midway mark of the first period, Caden Brown scoring on a one-timer.
Â
Mike Kennedy got one back for the Tigers 5:41 into the second period, finishing off a 2-on-1 with Ian Murphy and slapping a one-timer home during a 4-on-4 run of play.
Â
Jack Cronin would flip home a power-play goal of his own with 2:41 left in the second period to bring the Tigers within two after a pair of periods. Noah de la Durantaye put a puck towards net that found its way through to Cronin in front for a nifty change of direction and backhander over the shoulder of Logan Terness.
Â
The Tigers head on the road next weekend for a pair of ECAC contests at Union (December 21) and RPI (December 2) at 7 p.m.

Princeton closed to within one 3:21 into the third period with Joshua Karnish's second goal of the weekend. The Tigers forced a turnover in the neutral zone, and a trio of quick passes led to a cross-ice touch pass from Noah de la Durantaye to Karnish at the far post for a tap-in to make Ohio State's lead 4-3.Cro Gets Crafty
