Wrestling Wraps Up First Day at Midlands Championships, Stout and Dugan Secure Semifinals Berth

Hoffman Estates, Ill. - The Princeton wrestling team had a strong first day at the 58th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships today at NOW Arena. #8 Nate Dugan and #2 Luke Stout will both be competing in the Midlands semifinals tomorrow morning.

In an impressive display of skill and determination, the eighth-seeded wrestler, Nate Dugan from Princeton, showcased his prowess on the wrestling mat in his first day at Midlands. In the second round, Dugan faced off against Niel Antrassian from the Penn RTC, securing three takedowns for a victory by decision with a score of 13-9. Dugan continued his winning streak in the third round, overcoming the ninth-seeded Ryder Rogotzke from Ohio State with a decisive 10-5 victory by decision. The quarterfinal match proved to be a defining moment for Dugan. Undeterred by the tough competition, he faced the top-seeded, No. 13 Layne Malczewski from Michigan State. Dugan secured a commanding win by major decision, concluding the match with a score of 13-4 off of two takedowns and a third period, 4 second near fall. Dugan's outstanding performance in these matches puts him in tomorrow's semifinals.
In a commanding series of matches, second-seeded Luke Stout took home three victories on day one. In the second round, Stout faced off against Nick Nosler from SIU Edwardsville, delivering six takedowns and an escape that culminated in a technical fall victory with an impressive score of 19-3. Stout found a groove in the third round where he went head-to-head with Jt Davis from Lehigh and secured a victory by decision with a score of 9-3 by scoring off of a takedown in both the second and third period. The quarterfinal was a continued display of dominance as Stout faced seventh-seeded Cole Urbas from Penn. Stout emerged victorious notably with three takedowns in just the first period followed by one more in each the second and third period. He took a commanding win by major decision, concluding the match with a score of 19-7. Luke Stout will return tomorrow morning as the only other semifinalist for the Tigers.Dugan's Dancin'!

Eligh Rivera and Aidan Conner both battled to the quarterfinals of the championship bracket. Making his debut appearance at Midlands, Eligh Rivera secured an impressive victory in his inaugural match. The freshman wrestler knocked off the eighth-seeded and 19th-ranked Kelly Dunnigan from Penn, winning by a major decision with a final score of 10-2. This notable win marks Rivera's second win against a top-25 opponent in his collegiate career. Rivera ultimately fell 9-3 to his teammate, Ty Whalen, in the quarterfinals bout. Fifth-seeded Aidan Conner had a notable win against the eleven seeded Kael Wisler from Michigan State by decision, 6-0. Conner would go on to take a close loss to the third-seeded Cameron Caffey in a 3-2 loss by decision in the quarterfinals as well. Following a narrow 1-0 loss to Trevor Chumbley of Northwestern, Rocco Camillaci rebounded with an impressive streak in the consolation rounds. He secured victories in four consecutive matches, achieving success through a major decision, tech fall, fall, and decision, respectively.
