Men's Hockey Denied At Union, 3-1
February 25, 2023 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton staked Union to a three-goal lead after two periods, and an attempted comeback came up short as the Tigers fell to the Dutchmen, 3-1, at Messa Rink.
Â
Union struck first when the rebound of a John Prokop shot banged off the kneepad of Josh Nixon and in 1:06 into the game.
Â
The Tigers settled in after that to hold Union off the scoreboard the remainder of the first period, killing off a Union two-man advantage along the way.
Â
Chris Theodore gave Union a 2-0 lead 4:57 into the second period, swiping home the rebound of a Mason Snell shot after a bit of sustained pressure from the Dutchmen in Princeton's end.
Â
Liam Robertson stuffed home a loose puck on a 5-on-3 Union powerplay with 7:46 remaining in the second period to give the Dutchmen a 3-0 lead.
Â
Mike Kennedy would get the Tigers on the board with his first goal of the season. Off a faceoff win for the Tigers, he strode down the halfboards and slid a shot under Connor Murphy's pads to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Â
With this result, Princeton finishes tied for No. 7 in the ECAC's regular season standings but will enter the playoffs as the No. 9 seed due to tiebreaker procedures. The Tigers will open the ECAC Playoffs right back at Messa Rink against No. 8 seed Union on March 4 in the one-game ECAC First Round.Mikey Likes It!
