Fencers Sweep All Six Weapon Titles at NCAA Regional
March 11, 2023 | General, Men's Fencing, Women's Fencing
All six weapon titles went to Princeton fencers Saturday at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional at Lafayette as the Tigers, ranked No. 2 on the women's side in the final USFCA rankings and No. 4 for the men, closed out their final competition before the NCAA Championships.
The NCAA regional counts for 60 percent of the formula for selection to the NCAA Championships, and selections will be announced Tuesday. The NCAA Championships are set for March 23-26 at Duke.
Eighteen of the 23 Princeton fencers who competed finished in the top 10 in their weapon at the regional meet, with epees Tristan Szapary and Hadley Husisian, foils Mohamed Hamza and May Tieu, and sabers Ronald Anglade and Chloe Fox-Gitomer winning regional titles. Each weapon had 35 or 36 entrants.
Tieu and Hamza each won their second regional titles, with Tieu winning her first in 2020 and Hamza his first in 2022.
