Max Ting had an eagle and five birdies during a first round at the NCAA Norman Regional that saw him finish with a 1-under 71, leading Princeton after 18 holes.
Ting made the par-4 third hole in two and began the back nine with a run of four birdies in five holes to go from even par at the turn to 3-under with four holes to play.
The 1-under score has Ting tied for 15th overall in the 75-player field.Â
Princeton stands tied for ninth as a team at 5-over, nine shots back of fifth-place Colorado in what would be the final spot to advance to the NCAA Championships. Texas Tech, at 10-under, leads host and second-place Oklahoma by a stroke atop the team standings.
