WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - The Princeton men's soccer team (3-3-0) beat Monmouth 4-1 this evening at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. The Tigers had an impressive four different goal scorers in the match.

First Half

Just 40 miles down the road from the Princeton campus, an in-state match took place between the Tigers and Monmouth Hawks.

In the 28th minute of the match, Walker Gillespie broke open the scoring for the Tigers with a goal right in front of the net and the assist was given to Daniel Ittycheria. This was Gillespie's first goal of the season.

Just eight minutes after Gillespie found his first goal of the year, the sophomore Will Francis connected with Kevin Kelley's through ball and tallied his first goal of the season and extended Princeton's lead to two.

The Tigers led 2-0 after the first 45 minutes

Second Half

Monmouth cut the Tiger lead to one within the first 10 minutes of the second half when Ben Zakowski found the top left of back of the net.

The Tigers did not stop the offensive. Nico Nee scored the third goal for the Tigers off of a penalty kick in the 80th minute, his second penalty kick goal of the season.

Three minutes later, Daniel Ittycheria scored his fifth goal of the season ,his second goal off of a Nico Nee corner kick this year.

"It was a good win against a very talented team. I thought the guys came out with a lot of energy tonight and we rewarded ourselves with two good goals in the first half. We knew Monmouth would throw a lot at us in the second half and they did. We held on for a while but our defense and Will Watson made some great plays until Nico and Itty came through with some big goals at the end."

Men's soccer will stay the road to take on Yale, its second conference opponent of the 2023 season. Game day is Saturday, September 30 and kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
