Princeton Defeats Seton Hall 5-2 to Close Out Non-Conference Play
October 29, 2024 | Men's Soccer
"We had a good win against a strong Seton Hall team tonight, and things were clicking on the attacking end with some great passes and goals. Getting off to such a great start was the important thing that got us through. Now we look forward to our match with Dartmouth on Saturday." - Head Coach Jim Barlow
HOW IT HAPPENED
From kickoff, the game was fast-paced as the Tigers started to dominate possession of the ball while generating chances.
In the 14th minute, the Tigers got on the board as a corner kick taken by Harry Roberts bounced off Jack Jasinski and landed at the foot of Issa Mudashiru, who sent the ball into the net to put the Tigers up 1-0.
Just five minutes later, the Pirate keeper Soren Jensen came off his line and outside the penalty box, allowing a ball from Liam Beckwith to be headed into the empty net by Roberts, doubling the Tiger lead.
Princeton continued controlling possession and knocking on the door, as a Daniel Ittycheria header went just wide of the goal in the 25th minute. Still, in the 30th minute, Ittycheria got the goal he was looking for as a play from Nico Nee to Sam Vigilante set him up to score his sixth goal of the season and put the Tigers up 3-0.
Trying to cut the deficit, traffic in the box resulted in a shot in the 36th minute by Seton Hall's Agustin Resch, but Tiger keeper Will Watson made a big save to keep the Pirates at bay.
Just seconds before halftime, Issa Mudashiru found a ball sent into the box from Gabe Duchovny and scored again for the brace, bringing the Tiger lead to 4-0 going into the break.
Coming out of the half, Princeton maintained the offensive pressure, registering two shots while staying largely in the attacking third.
In the 64th minute, Roberts ran the ball into the box and passed to freshman forward Garry Zhang, who scored his first career goal and brought the score to 5-0 Tigers.
Seton Hall was able to get back two goals in the 69th and 85th minutes, both by Nicolas Baala King Obama. Still, the Tiger lead was too steep to overcome, and Princeton took the win 5-2.
