PORTLAND – A strong fourth quarter led the Portland Pilots over the Princeton Women's Basketball Team, 74-55, at the Chiles Center on Friday evening.
After Skye Belker scored five straight to cut the Tigers' deficit to three, 54-51, with 8:45 to go, Portland scored 11 consecutive points. Following a Belker trey, a 7-0 push for the Pilots put the contest away.
The home squad started fast with 14 of the first 16 points before six in a row got the Tigers within six, 14-8, halfway through the quarter. Princeton trailed 22-16 after 10 minutes.
Princeton was behind by eight, 30-22, with 3:14 to go in the first half, but used a 10-2 sprint highlighted by this six-point stretch by Cristina Parrella to tie the game, 32-all, at the break.
Squared away at 34, the Tigers ripped off eight of 11, to hold a 42-37 advantage as the clock read 4:19 in the third stanza. The Pilots quickly countered to tie it, 42-42, and eventually led 51-46 as the fourth quarter started.
Belker led the Tigers with 12 points while Tabitha Amanze was perfect from the floor, scoring 10 points. Parrella had a season-best eight points in the loss.
Princeton falls to 5-3 overall and finishes its trip to Utah on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. (2 pm MST).
