Men's Hockey Dominates RPI, 6-2, To Close Out Weekend Sweep
December 07, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
Princeton capped a strong weekend at home, dispatching RPI, 6-2, to conclude a weekend sweep inside the ECAC.
The Tigers (5-4-1, 3-4-1 ECAC) made a big jump inside the ECAC standings, stacking six points to move into a tie for 5th place with 11 points alongside Cornell – just two points out of 4th heading into a break for exams.
The Tigers have now won four in a row, their longest regular season winning streak since the 2017-18 team won five in a row from 1/13-2/9 en route to an ECAC Championship.
Five Tigers had multi-point games – each matching his single-game career high for points in a game.Oh, That's Nasty!

Brendan Gorman had three points (1g, 2a) to match his career high, while David Ma had two goals to set a career high and match his single-game best in points. Jayden Sison also matched his career high with two points (1g, 1a), as did David Jacobs (2a) and Jaxson Ezman (1g, 1a).
Arthur Smith made 24 saves in goal, winning his fourth game in nine days.
The Tigers were 2-for-4 on the power play and a perfect 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
The Tigers pounced in the first period, scoring twice on faceoff plays to build a 2-0 lead after the opening frame.
David Ma had two goals, the first Princeton defenseman to score twice in a game since Nick Carabin did so against Union on February 17, 2024.
The first goal came off the stick of David Ma who took a Luc Pelletier faceoff win on the halfwall and broke towards goal before breaking to the near post and roofing his third goal of the season under the bar for a 1-0 lead with 6:58 remaining in the period.
Less than a minute later, Jaxson Ezman followed suit with a goal immediately after a Carson Buydens faceoff win. Buydens needed two swipes to win the draw, but Ezman needed just one to backhand in his first goal of the season and provide Princeton a 2-0 lead at the end of 20:00.
RPI pushed back to start the second period, but Princeton held serve thanks to the work of Arthur Smith who made eight saves in the middle frame and kept his team in front until the Tigers were able to capitalize on late power play opportunities to build a 4-0 lead after two periods.Faceoffs On Point!

David Ma followed up in the final minute with his second goal of the game, sniping home a wrister from inside the top of the circles with 29.7 seconds remaining in the middle frame.Still Serving Up Some Stuffing!

RPI got on the board finally in the third when Sutter Muzzatti scored 5:53 in with a short-side snap shot to cut Princeton's lead to 4-1.
Jayden Sison answered past the midway mark of the frame, wiring a one-timer from the slot with 8:32 remaining for his first goal since February of 2023 at RPI.
The Engineers again got one back when Jake Gagnon funneled home a loose puck with 5:17 to play, but that was as close as RPI would get.
Brendan Gorman shut the door with a short-handed empty-netter with 2:32 remaining, finishing off a long-distance give-and-go with Sison that started after a blocked shot from Sison and a multi-zone saucer pass to spring Gorman in alone. What An Effort!
