McDonald, Tucker Win Individual Events As Princeton Continues To Lead At Ivy Championships

Dakota Tucker and Margaux McDonald both won individual events on Day 3 of the Ivy League women's swimming and diving championships to help Princeton maintain its big lead heading into the final day of competition at Brown.
McDonald, a senior, won the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.20, edging out Yale's Jessey Li by 0.14 seconds to win the third individual Ivy championship oif her career. Tucker, a freshman, made it two individual wins in two events at these championships, winning the 400 individual medley a day after taking the 200 IM Thursday. McDonald, by the way, was the second-place finisher in that event.
100 Butterfly
Princeton's Heidi Smithwick took third place, while fellow Tiger sophomore Sabrina Johnston was fifth in the event. Johnston and Smithwick were half of Princeton's winning 200 free relay Thursday night, when Johnston also won the 50 free while setting a meet record. Johnston and Smithwick were also on winning relays Wednesday night.
400 IM
This was a big event for Princeton, which went 1-2-6 with Tucker's winning by a huge margin of nearly five seconds over teammate Elenor Sun, 4:09.6-4:13.92. Sun then was two seconds better than the third-place finisher. Emily Appleton finished in sixth, giving Princeton 84 points from its top three in the event. Tucker's winning time was an NCAA "B" qualifier.
200 Free
Ellie Marquardt came in second, only 0.34 seconds behind Brown's Morgan Lukinac in a tight race that saw seven of the eight schools have a swimmer in the top eight. Marquardt's time was an NCAA "B" qualifier as well.
100 Breaststroke
McDonald was Princeton's only finalist and she made it count with her win over Li. McDonald was actually in fourth place after the first 50 yards before turning it up a few gears en route to the victory.
100 Backstroke
Princeton had three swimmers in the final of the event, with Isabella Korbly in third, Alexa Pappas in fifth and Liza Whitmire in seventh at the end.
400 Medley Relay
Princeton's team of Korbly, McDonald, Smithwick and Noble were edged at the end by Harvard 3:33.65 - 3:33.76.
