Evan Harmeling '12 Finishes Top-10 In PGA Tour Debut; Earns Next Start At Vaslpar
March 10, 2024 | Men's Golf
As far as PGA TOUR debuts go, Evan Harmeling '12 put together of the more memorable in recent memory as he went from Monday Qualifier to the Top 10 at the Puerto Rico Open.
Harmeling finished tied for 10th at -15, shooting a 273 after rounds of 70-69-67-67. He was under par in all four rounds, including back-to-back rounds of -5 on the weekend.
With the Top-10, Harmeling has earned a spot in a second PGA TOUR event and will compete at the Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Fla. March 21-24.
After an opening round of -2, Harmeling was cruising -3 through 16 holes in Round 2 before play was suspended due to darkness. He returned early the next morning to par the final two holes and secure his spot on the weekend two shots clear of the cutline.
On Saturday, Harmeling made the most of "Moving Day" with four birdies and an eagle en route to a five-under 65 which vaulted him into the Top-25.
Sunday was about as good a round as you could draw up given the circumstances of being near the front page of a leaderboard on Sunday in your first career PGA Tour start. Harmeling was bogey-free in the round, carding five birdies -- including each of the final two holes to charge up the board and secure a piece of the Top 10.
