Bath Adds USA Lacrosse, USILA Honors; Tigers Look Ahead To Ivy Opener
March 11, 2024 | Men's Lacrosse
Michael Bath put up a school-record of six caused turnovers Sunday afternoon, and he did so against the team in the country that takes care of the ball better than any other. With that, it's not surprising that he earned the Ivy League's Defensive Player of the Week Award earlier this week and then added USA Lacrosse Division I Player of the Week and USILA Team of the Week honors.
Bath's huge effort came in a 14-8 win at Rutgers, the team who led the nation is fewest turnovers per game last year and was ranked No. 1 heading into the game Sunday at 13 per game. Despite those stats, Rutgers turned it over 21 times against the Tigers. Of those 21 turnovers, 12 came in the first half, when Rutgers took only 15 shots and Princeton built a 9-4 edge at intermission.
A junior, Bath is in his first year as a starter on defense after being an impact longstick midfielder his first two seasons. He now has 10 caused turnovers and 15 ground balls for the season.
Princeton is now 4-2 overall as it readies to host Cornell Sunday at 2 in the Ivy League opener, which can be seen on ESPNU. The Tigers are now ranked 13th in the Inside Lacrosse media poll, while Cornell is ranked 15th.
