Eleven Tigers were selected to compete at the 2024 NCAA Championships, the NCAA announced on Tuesday.
Teams can earn a maximum of 12 bids at the NCAAs with each fencer competing against each of the other 23 fencers in their weapon in a five-touch bout. Each win contributes one point to the team title, which is a combined men's/women's title. The top four of the 24 fencers in each of the six weapons (épée, foil, saber, men's and women's) will advance to the individual semifinals for a 15-touch bout, with the two winners there competing in another 15-touch bout for the NCAA individual title in their weapon.
The competition will get underway on Thursday, March 21 at Ohio State's French Field House for the first of two days of competition in the women's event. The first day will see the épée competition start at 9 a.m., foil start at 11 a.m., and saber start at 1:30 p.m. On Friday, March 22, all three weapons will start at 9 a.m., and the semifinals for the individual titles will start at 1 p.m. in the order of épée, foil, saber.
The schedule will be similar for the men's portion of the event on Saturday, March 23 and Sunday, March 24, with the exception of the saber competition, which will get going at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and the individual semifinals, which will start at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Princeton has earned a top-four trophy at nine of the past 11 NCAA Championships in which it has competed, including the last two, finishing fourth in 2022 and second in 2023.
