Men's Hockey Drops Regular Season Finale To Clarkson
March 02, 2024 | Men's Ice Hockey
A four-goal outburst from Clarkson in the second period spoiled a spirited start from Princeton and the Golden Knights would go on to secure a 6-2 win in the regular season finale for both teams.
Â
The Tigers finish the ECAC regular season in ninth place and head to No. 8 seed Harvard to open the ECAC Playoffs on Friday, March 8 at 7 p.m. at the Bright-Landry Center.
Â
Ian Murphy and Carson Buydens had Princeton's goals, while Adam Robbins, Nick Seitz, Kai Daniells and Tyler Rubin had assists.
Â
Emotions were high on Senior Night and thus it made perfect sense that the emotional leader of the Tigers broke the ice and netted the first goal of the night.
Â
Ian Murphy saved perhaps his finest goal in a Princeton uniform for his home regular season finale as he shoveled home a one-handed flip from just in front of the goal 6:57 into the first period off assists from classmates and linemates Adam Robbins and Nick Seitz.
Â
Moments after Princeton had successfully killed off a Clarkson two-man advantage which lasted 1:16 to start the second period, the Golden Knights evened the game at 1-1 when Cody Monds when end-to-end and fluttered a shot from just inside the blueline under the glove of Pearson 2:21 into the middle frame.
Â
The Golden Knights would go on to score four goals in the second period to take a 4-1 lead after two periods of play.
Â
Noah Beck gave Clarkson the lead 7:29 into the period, and Ayrton Martino followed 1:39 later to make Clarkson's lead, 3-1.
Â
Trey Taylor put a capstone on the period with a slapshot to the far post with 3:30 remaining in the second.
Â
Carson Buydens gave the Tigers some life with his second goal of the season 7:30 into the third period. Tyler Rubin sprung Kai Daniells with a long stretch pass and Daniells slid a one-touch pass back to the slot for his classmate Buydens to snap glove side.
