No. 21 Women's Lacrosse Washes Away Monmouth, 18-6
March 06, 2024 | Women's Lacrosse
For the third consecutive home game, No. 21 Princeton was called upon to battle not just an opponent but also inclement weather as the rain once again poured down at Sherrerd Field. On this night, the only thing flowing more freely than the raindrops was Princeton's attack as the Tigers stormed to an 18-6 win over Monmouth.
The Tigers outshot the Hawks, 45-15 and nine different Princeton player had at least one goal en route to the victory.
Grace Tauckus had six points in the game, scoring five times and adding an assist while McKenzie Blake had a five-point night with four goals and an assist to also go with three draw controls and two ground balls.
The Tigers were dominant in the first quarter, taking a 4-0 lead after 15:00 of play. With the wind whipping and rain impacting play, it took a while for both teams to get going but Tauckus got the Tigers on the board 4:43 into the game. That goal held until a three-goal run from the Tigers in the final 6:54 of the opening period with goals from Blake, Haven Dora and Kari Buonanno. All total after one quarter, Prince had a 4-0 lead on the scoreboard, a 17-2 edge in shots and a 5-0 advantage on the draw.
The Hawks did not score for the first 19:36 of the game before Carolien Brennan scored early in the second quarter. By that time, Princeton's lead had already grown to six. Monmouth settled in a bit in the second period, staying with the Tigers and keeping the deficit at a half dozen for most of the period. However, the Tigers had one more dominant run in them to truly ice the game.
The Tigers head South next week for a pair of games in the Sunshine State, taking on Florida (March 13; 1 p.m.) and Jacksonville (March 16, 11 a.m.)
