Princeton Announces 2024 Men's Lacrosse Team Awards
June 21, 2024 | Men's Lacrosse
The Princeton men's lacrosse team is going through its longest sustained period of success since it won six NCAA titles in 10 years, with two straight Ivy League tournament championships and three straight NCAA tournament appearances, including one Final Four.
The 2024 season was another great one for Matt Madalon's team, which went 11-5 and finished the season as the Ivy League team ranked in the top 10 nationally. Winning team awards in that climate is even more special, which makes those selections very difficult.
Princeton presents four team awards each year. This year's winners are:
The Higginbotham Award
Awarded annually to that member of the Princeton varsity lacrosse team who by outstanding play, distinguished sportsmanship and gentlemanly influence has best exemplified the qualities of John Edwards Higginbotham '39, captain of the varsity lacrosse team.
Â
The 2024 winner is Michael Gianforcaro, a two-time All-American goalie whose leadership and high quality of play led Princeton to the back-to-back Ivy tournament titles and into the postseason.

Howard Trophy
In honor of Albert F. Howard '25. Awarded annually to that senior member of the Princeton varsity lacrosse team who has shown the greatest improvement in lacrosse during his undergraduate years at Princeton.
Â
The 2024 winner is Lukas Stanat, who had one goal for his career prior to his junior year and then 15 goals and 17 assists in his final two seasons.

Â
Klurfeld Award
Presented annually in memory of Scott P. Klurfeld '74. To a player chosen by his teammates who embodies the qualities of perseverance, hard work, team spirit and dedication to Lacrosse and to Princeton, which were exemplified by Scott P. Klurfeld '74.
Â
The 2024 winner is Colin Freer, a defenseman and man-down specialist whose impact on the field, in the locker room, in the classroom and in the community provided an inspiration to every member of the program.

Â
John T. Schroeder Award
Awarded annually to a member of the Men's Lacrosse Team who through the embodiment of character and selfless devotion to the team has had the greatest impact on the success of Princeton Men's Lacrosse.
Â
The 2024 winner is Bear Lockshin, a tri-captain who fought through injuries his entire career but never waned in his enthusiasm, leadership and spirit.
