PRINCETON, N.J. – Non-conference play continues for the Princeton University women's volleyball team at the Penn State Invitational in University Park, Pennsylvania, inside Rec Hall on Sept. 13-14.
The Tigers open on Sept. 13 at 10 a.m. ET against Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) opponent Duke before taking on Big East opponent St. John's later that afternoon at 4 p.m. ET. On Sept. 14, the Tigers face the hosts, Big Ten opponent #3 Penn State.
Recapping The Villanova Classic
Princeton opened the 2024 season at the Villanova Classic, first defeating Old Dominion, 3-2 (13-25, 25-15, 25-19, 25-27, 15-12), on Sept. 6, then Loyola Maryland, 3-2 (25-20, 17-25, 27-25, 19-25, 15-12), before falling to the host Wildcats, 3-0, (25-2, 25-23, 25-20) on Sept. 7.
All-Tournament Team
Sophomore duo Sydney Bold and Erin McNair were named to the Villanova Classic All-Tournament Team.
Bold recorded 36 digs, 21 assists and three service aces in the Tigers' three matches. She had her first career double-double against Loyola with 18 digs and a career-high 10 assists to go with two service aces. Bold also tallied 11 digs, six assists and one service ace against Villanova. Additionally, she finished with seven digs and five assists against the Monarchs.
McNair totaled 31 kills, 21 digs, three blocks and two service aces. Against the Greyhounds she recorded a career-high 15 kills, five digs, and one block while she tallied 10 digs, eight kills and two service aces against ODU. Against Villanova, McNair had eight kills, six digs and two blocks.
Harrington Block Party
Sophomore Ava Harrington recorded 19 blocks at the Villanova Classic, with a career-high eight against ODU, seven against Loyola and four against Villanova. No Tiger had recorded more than seven blocks in a match since Lucia Scalamandre had nine against Yale on Nov. 5, 2022.
Fulton Steps Up
Senior Shelby Fulton finished 33 kills on a .333 hitting percentage at the Villanova Classic, with her 13 against Loyola a career-high. Fulton also recorded six blocks.
2023 Rewind
Princeton is coming off a 2023 season where it finished second in the Ivy League, making the Ivy Tournament for the second-straight season in the tournament's second season of existence. The Tigers had a 14-9 record overall and an 11-3 record in conference play in 2023.
Draper's Production
Sophomore Sydney Draper ended the Villanova Classic with 87 assists, 30 digs, six kills and three blocks. She recorded double-doubles against the Monarchs (42 assists, 13 digs) and the Greyhounds (25 assists, 12 digs) to bring her career double-double total to 12.
Head Coach Sabrina King
The Tigers will be led by Sabrina King, who enters her 13th season as head coach. She has guided Princeton to five Ivy League titles, three NCAA Tournament appearances and has been named Ivy Coach of the Year three times. Throughout her tenure as head coach, King has coached four Ivy League Players of the Year and 44 All-Ivy honorees. King is currently sitting on 195 career victories, requiring five more to reach 200. A member of the Class of 2001 at Princeton, she won three Ivy titles as a player, was the 1999 Ivy Player of the Year and was a three-time All-Ivy selection.
Scalamandre Poised For Dominant 2024
Through just two seasons at Princeton, junior Lucia Scalamandre has accumulated an impressive list of accolades. She was named 2023 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region Honorable Mention and is a two-time First Team All-Ivy honoree. In 2023, Scalamandre led the Ivy League in hitting percentage (.408) and was ranked fifth in points-per-set (3.45). The 2022 Ivy Rookie of the Year, her 104 blocks from the 2022 season rank No. 4 all-time in school history for most blocks in a season.

Draper was named 2023 Ivy Rookie of the Year and Second-Team All-Ivy League. Her 903 assists led the conference, while she ranked second in the Ivy League and 46th in the nation in assists-per-set (10.26). Draper's 24 service aces also tied the team high.
An Impressive 2023 For Chaney
Sophomore Kamryn Chaney will look to build off an impressive 2023 season that saw her named Second Team All-Ivy League. Chaney led the team and ranked second in the Ivy League in points-per-set (3.86), led the team and ranked fourth in the conference in kills-per-set (3.27) and led the team and was 10th in the Ivy League in service aces per set (0.22).
Bold's Defensive Impact
As a freshman in 2023, Bold led the Tigers and ranked second in the Ivy League in digs (375) while also leading the team and ranking fourth in the conference in digs-per-set (4.26).
Ivy League Hitting Percentage Leader
Senior Mariah Haislip has recorded some of the best hitting percentages in the Ivy League over the past two seasons. As a sophomore in 2022 she led the conference (.379), and she ranked fourth in 2023 (.357).

The Tigers' leadership council for 2024 consists of Haislip, senior Gracie Wood, junior Valerie Nutakor and Draper.

The Blue Devils have a 3-3 record, and earned a 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 28-26) win over Florida International in their most recent match on Sept. 7 in Durham, North Carolina. Princeton and Duke last met on Oct. 25, 1982, in Durham, North Carolina, in a 2-1 Tiger victory.
