Men's Hockey Stunned By Colgate, 6-4
January 18, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
A wild one at Baker Rink slipped away from Princeton has Colgate scored three consecutive goals to erase a third-period Princeton lead and escape with a 6-4 victory.
Â
David Jacobs had two goals for the Tigers to match his career high, while Nick Marciano and Luc Pelletier each had two assists to set new career highs.
Â
For the Raiders, Alex DiPaolo and Brett Chorske each had two-goal nights while linemate Max Nagel had two assists. Tommy Bergsland also had two helpers.
Â
Colgate opened the scoring 5:24 in when the Raiders capitalized on a turnover just outside the Princeton blue line with Daniel Panetta one-timing in a Ben Raymond pass to finish off a 2-on-0 break for Colgate.
Â
Kai Greaves equalized for Princeton with 2:35 to play in the first period, scoring for the second time in two games. With Princeton on a rush, Alex Konovalov pulled up inside the Colgate zone and found a trailing Greaves who quickly fired above the glove of Takaacs to tie the game.
Â
Colgate would take the lead with 3:37 to play in the second, capitalizing on a fluky bounce when Brett Chorske's shot from just inside the zone was saved by Smith but fluttered up and onto the top of the net. Smith tried to cover the puck, but it was still bouncing and fell down and over the line for a 3-2 Raiders lead.
Â
Princeton was undeterred after the bad bounce, netting the equalizer with 1:23 left in the second. Jaxson Ezman and David Jacobs pressured on the forecheck and Jacobs found himself alone behind the net where he then drove out in front before stuffing home a backhander to the far post.
Â
Jacobs scored again for the Tigers 7:02 into the third period, driving the net off a Brendan Gorman faceoff win and redirecting a Marciano shot from the point to give Princeton a 4-3 lead.
Â
The eventual game-winner came off the stick of Chorske who one-timed a Nagel pass after he negated a potential icing call with 2:30 to play in regulation.
Â
An insurance goal for the Raiders came off the stick of DiPaolo who netted a power-play goal into an empty net with nine seconds left.
Â
Princeton is home for a non-conference series with Bentley at Baker Rink January 25-26.

Just before the end of the period, Kevin Anderson gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead with his first goal of the season. Nick Marciano worked down the left wall and funneled a pass to the slot where Anderson was waiting for a one-timer.He's making this a habit!

For the second game in a row, Kai Greaves joins the rush and goes by the glove and in for a huge goal!@ecachockey | @NCAAIceHockey pic.twitter.com/zATMtyd840
The Raiders tied the game early in the second period when Alex DiPaolo scored 2:25 in – just moments after Princeton had completed a successful penalty kill. As Luc Pelletier was exiting the box, Ryan Sullivan tipped a pass to DiPaolo at the far post and he beat Smith before he was able to slide over to make the score 2-2.Shout Out Sasky!

That lead was brief as Colgate countered 1:56 later when DiPaolo scored on a 6-on-5 delayed penalty situation, connecting on a one-timer from the left circle to tie the game. They Don't Ask How!
