No. 18 Tigers Sweep Queens University Charlotte

PRINCETON, N.J. – With Mason Rice and Ryan Vena earning double-figure kills, the Princeton men's volleyball team swept the Queens University Charlotte Royals 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-20) on Sunday afternoon in Dillon Gym. With the win, Princeton improves to 2-3 on the season while Queens falls to 5-3.
First-year Rice led the team with 15 kills, while Vena notched 10 kills and three service aces on the day for a squad-high 16.5 points. Henry Wedbush racked up 31 assists for a team-high.
Defensively, Roan Alviar led Princeton with eight digs, while Tristan Whitfield had 1.0 block.
In the first set, Princeton was able to pull away with a 9-3 run as Whitfield and Nyherowo Omene contributed two kills apiece. The Royals were able to pick up on offense, but they could not outpace the Tigers who maintained the lead to take the set 25-18.
Vena exploded in the second set, notching five kills and a service ace to help the Tigers get ahead. Rice continued heating up as well with six kills. While Vena and Rice tag-teamed on offense, 10 errors by the Royals helped Princeton close the deal, taking the set 25-20.
Rice kept up the pace in set three, adding another six kills and a service ace down the stretch to push Princeton past the Royals. Queens was able to bring the deficit to three with the set at 14-11, but the Tiger lead would only grow down the stretch with Vena and Jameson Vaccaro also adding a kill.
Ultimately, set three would end with a 25-20 Tiger win again, letting Princeton get the three-set sweep in their home court.
