February 01, 2025 | Wrestling
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – Winning all but two bouts, the Princeton wrestling team opened the weekend with a 24-13 win over Drexel on the road in Philadelphia on Saturday.
Sebastian Garibaldi earned a fall in the match, while Marc-Anthony McGowan earned a tech fall to help the Tigers ahead.
#6 Ty Whalen started things off with a decision victory over Dominic Findora, exploding after a scoreless first period with two takedowns to take the win 8-2. Jake Mann followed it up with a 12-6 decision over Luke Nichter.
After the Tigers found themselves trailing after five bouts, Luke Stout took the mat and earned a commanding major decision over Ibrahim Ameer, again coming alive after a scoreless first period to get the major and tie the match at 10 apiece.
Garibaldi was next, and just as the scoreless first period made it appear as though the bout would be a close one, it was over as Garibaldi had Dominic Petracci pinned just 37 seconds into the second period. The fall is his fourth this season.
Marc-Anthony McGowan dominated his bout with Desmond Pleasant, racking up a 10-1 lead by the second period. With the clock about to run out with McGowan in major territory, the redshirt freshman relentlessly went for another takedown, earning the tech fall at the last second, 17-2.
Eligh Rivera closed out the Tiger wins, battling his way to a 13-6 decision over Deon Pleasant to call the match and secure the Princeton victory, 24-13.
