Wrestling Goes 2-0 in Jadwin, Blanking Harvard 44-0 and Downing Brown 36-7
February 02, 2025 | Wrestling
PRINCETON, N.J. – Going 2-0 at home, the Princeton wrestling team picked up dominant wins over Brown and Harvard on Sunday with an Ivy doubleheader in Jadwin. The Tigers began the day with a 36-7 win over the Bears, before going on to blank Harvard, 44-0.
Combined, the Tigers earned eight tech falls and a pin across the two dual meets today, also throwing five major decisions into the mix across 19 matches wrestled.
"It's exciting that we see the potential that we have as a team when we're healthy and firing on all cylinders. It's been a frustrating first semester for us, dealing with injuries and not having our number-one potential lineup; it's really cool to see these guys go out there, be aggressive, try to score points and be a little edgy, and overall just take the Ivy League schedule seriously ... We're moving in the right direction, what we're doing is working and our guys are starting to compete with confidence, which is a very scary, scary thing, so I'm excited." - Head Coach Joe Dubuque
#23 Marc-Anthony McGowan earned two tech falls on the day, the freshman now having earned a tech fall or a fall in six of his last seven matches. McGowan first dominated his bout against Brown's Jared Brunner, working his way to a 9-2 lead after the first period before going on to make a series of takedowns to get the tech. Later, against the Crimson's Isaiah Adams, McGowan relentlessly pushed for the next point until he got the tech to end it at 6:18.
#6 Ty Whalen also went 2-0 with two tech falls on the day, first over Brown's Austin McBurney and next over Harvard's Jaden Pepe - whom he brought to a 15-point deficit in just 3:19 after a 15-3 first period.
#29 Kole Mulhauser had a standout day, earning a major over Brown's #27 Drew Reall before going on to get the tech over Harvard's Luke Rada in just 3:47.
Blaine Bergey was also among the top Tiger performers, getting a tech fall against Brown's Harrison Trahan with a takedown late in the third period pushing him into tech territory. Bergey followed up his afternoon with a major decision against Harvard's Cael Berg, again showing aggressiveness as he pursued, and found, another takedown with just seconds to go in the match to put him in the next scoring bracket.
Luke Stout has been consistent for the Tigers and today was no different, as the senior captain earned a major over Brown's Thomas Sandoval before joining the Tiger tech-fall party with a 19-4 win over Harvard's Hudson Skove in the evening dual.
Xavier Giles was critical in Princeton's shutout of Harvard, gutting his way to a 6-5 decision with determination and aggressiveness that resulted in a late takedown which gave Giles the lead. It marked the freshman's first Ivy League dual meet victory.
Fellow first-year Dan Jones took care of business with an 8-1 decision against Harvard's Logan Brzozowski today after taking a forfeit win against Brown.
Jacob Mann was strong for the Tigers today too, stepping up in the Harvard dual to battle out a gutsy 9-7 decision over Nolan Liess.
Ivy League Co-Wrestler of the Week, #25 Eligh Rivera, had another impressive day on the mat, first getting a takedown over Brown's Ian Oswalt with just 11 seconds remaining to get a major decision. Rivera followed up his performance with a tech fall over Harvard's Dante Frinzi, which he accomplished with a series of three back-to-back takedowns late in the third period.
In what was a thrilling finale to an exciting day in Jadwin, Sebastian Garibaldi ended the last bout of the day almost as quickly as it began, earning a pin over Harvard's Jeffrey Crooks in just 1:42. The stellar performance followed up his earlier 3-2 decision over Brown's Alex Semenenko.
Princeton's win over Harvard marked the largest margin of victory over the Crimson recorded in program history, with Princeton now 13-10 and 5-6 at home in the series that dates back to the 2001-02 season.
With the wins today, Princeton improves to 3-0 in the Ivy League and 8-6 overall.
