Wrestling Concludes Season at NCAA Championships
March 21, 2025 | Wrestling
PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Princeton wrestling team concluded the 2024-25 season at the NCAA Championships on Friday in Philadelphia.
All five Tiger qualifiers advanced after picking up one win during yesterday's matches, the first time the program has had five wrestlers advance to day two since 2017.
Each of the Tigers wrestled hard, with Eligh Rivera and Luke Stout picking up another win apiece in the consolation bracket, but all were eliminated after dropping contests in session three.
Stout, just the sixth Tiger to become a four-time NCAA qualifier, earned dominant tech fall victory in the second round of consolations over Campbell's #21 Levi Hopkins.
Moving on to round three of wrestlebacks, the senior captain's career would come to an end, though, after a dropped decision to Nebraska's Camden McDanel. Still, the inaugural 197 lb Ivy League Champion, 2025 First Team All-Ivy honoree and two-time Second Team All-Ivy honoree left an impact on Princeton wrestling that will set an example for classes of Tigers to come.
Eligh Rivera was also able to pick up an exciting victory in round two of wrestlebacks with a big 11-6 decision over Northern Colorado's #8 Andrew Alirez.
In the third round, however, Rivera was eliminated by #15 Joe Olivieri of Rutgers with a 7-2 decision.
Marc-Anthony McGowan was eliminated by a narrow defeat to Minnesota's #19 Cooper Flynn. Despite McGowan tying it up at one apiece with just seconds to go, riding time proved the difference to send Flynn through and end McGowan's NCAA bid.
Sophomore captain Ty Whalen dropped tech fall in consolation round two to Teague Travis of Oklahoma State. Fellow sophomore Kole Mulhauser also fell by tech fall to #14 DJ Parker of Oklahoma.
After going toe-to-toe with ranked opponents, battling injuries, and more, the Tigers' 2024-25 season was one of resiliency and success.
Princeton boasted two of the inaugural Ivy League Champions in McGowan and Stout, while making history by hosting the very first Ivy League Wrestling Tournament in Jadwin Gym.
Advancing to NCAAs, Princeton sent some of its best in the five wrestlers who went to Philadelphia and fought their way through day one of the most elite tournament in college wrestling.
