Martino Takes Seventh at U.S. Open

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – Matthew Martino finished in seventh place in the U20 65kg freestyle division at the U.S. Open on Sunday in Las Vegas.
Competing in a stacked field at The Expo at World Market, Martino went 6-2 on the weekend, taking three tech falls and two falls en-route to placing.
The first-year Tiger and 2026 NCAA qualifier kicked things cruised through the first three rounds in the championship, taking two techs and a pin to advance to the round of 16. There, he took an 11-3 decision over Jayce Paridon to advance to the quarterfinals.
In the quarters, he fell to Kellen Wolbert, knocking Martino into the wrestlebacks.
In the consolation quarters, another pin over Jake Hockaday sent Martino to the consolation sub-semis, where he fell again in a close 10-9 decision to Clinton Shepherd.
Wrestling for seventh, Martino dominated again, taking a 3:50 tech fall over Isaiah Schaefer to place in his first national competition at the U20 level.
