An Ivy League Rookie of the Year honor and a Coaching Staff of the Year honor led a haul of Ivy League awards for the Princeton fencing teams following a men's Ivy title and a third-place finish for the women's team at the Ivy League Championships last weekend.
Chin-Yi Kong was selected as the Ivy League Women's Fencing Rookie of the Year after a 14-4 run through the foil competition and a second-team All-Ivy honor. It's the first year the Ivy League Rookie of the Year award has been given, though the league had a Most Outstanding Rookie award from 2011-14. Two Princeton women won that award, with Ambika Singh doing so in 2012 and Grace Stone doing so in 2013.
Princeton's coaching staff won the Ivy Men's Coaching Staff of the Year honor after guiding the team to an unbeaten run through the Ivy League Championship for the first time since 2012 and to the Ivy title for the second straight year. It's the first year the honor has been given as the Coaching Staff of the Year after being given as the Coach of the Year since its inauguration in 2015. It's the first men's honor for Zoltan Dudas and staff, though Dudas was named the Ivy Women's Coach of the Year in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2022 and 2023. Dudas, Szilvia Gyore and Aleks Ochocki coached Princeton at the Ivy League Championships.
Princeton's Academic All-Ivy honorees were seniors Nicholas Lawson, a physics major, and Jessica Lin, a computer science major. Each program selects one Academic All-Ivy honoree from among its juniors and seniors. Lawson went 9-2 in the men's épée competition, earning first-team honors, and Lin went 8-8 in the women's épée competition.
In previously announced honors, rookie Emese Domonkos was the Ivy women's saber champion, going a league-best 14-4 at the Ivy meet. Domonkos, épées Hadley Husisian (14-4), saber Alexandra Lee (13-5), épée Alec Brooke (10-2), Lawson, and foil Allen Chen (8-4) were first-team All-Ivy honorees. Kong, foil Maia Weintraub (11-6), and sabers Madeline Sanz (11-7), Matthew Limb (7-5) and Adam Lai (6-5) were second-team honorees.
The Tigers will return to competition at the Temple Duals on Feb. 23 before the NCAA regional and championships next month.
