About the Tigers
- Princeton most recently dropped a home contest with LIU on Friday, falling 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 18-25) to the LIU Sharks on Friday night in Dillon Gym.
- Mason Rice and Owen Mellon each earned a team-high 13 kills in the match, with Mellon earning a .242 hitting percentage. The pair earned seven and eight digs on the night, respectively. Mellon's 13 kills also marked a career high for the junior.
- Before LIU, Princeton swept FDU on Friday, January 31st, winning 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-10) to improve to 4-0 all-time versus the Knights.
- Tristan Whitfield made five blocks in the victory over FDU and almost doubled his season total in one performance.
- Senior Nyherowo Omene earned his second career EIVA Offensive Player of the Week honors on February 3rd. Omene notched 13 kills, recorded a .813 hitting percentage and added an impressive six service aces against FDU. Omene actively leads the EIVA in total career aces with 110 which ties him for sixth in the nation.
- Omene sits in the top 50 in multiple statistical categories across D1 volleyball. Omene is currently 16th in service aces per set, 19th in points per set and 26th in kills per set. He is also 25th in hitting percentage with .369.
- Henry Wedbush has racked up 175 assists this season including 26 against FDU. The senior leads the squad and sits at number five in the EIVA with a 8.33 average per set.
- Omene leads Princeton and is second in the EIVA, averaging 3.52 kills per set with Mason Rice behind him in eighth in the conference with a 3.00 average.
- Rice has had a strong start to his collegiate career and is eighth in the EIVA in hitting percentage and is second on the Tigers' roster with 68.0 points, good for an average of 3.40 per set.
- Omene has also become a career leader in kills, currently ranking 12th nationally in division I with 779 total.
- Roan Alviar leads Princeton in digs, averaging 2.04 per set with 49. He now ranks second in the EIVA.
- The Tigers were picked to finish fourth in the EIVA preseason standings. Princeton was also tied for 17th in the latest AVCA poll.
- Omene and Wedbush were named to the 2025 EIVA Players to Watch list. Both seniors were named to the All-EIVA First Team at the conclusion of last season.
- Joining the Tiger squad this year are five newcomers in the class of 2025, including Alviar, Ambrose Engling, Rice, Kevin Yang and Ethan Wells.
- First-years Alviar and Engling were named to the 2025 VolleyballMag Boys Fab 50 list.
- Princeton ended the 2024 season with a trip to the EIVA quarterfinals and an AVCA ranking of 18 in the final coaches' poll. The Tigers went 12-12 overall and 5-5 in conference play.
- Tristan Whitfield was named the 2024 EIVA Freshman of the Year. Now entering his sophomore season, Whitfield led the EIVA in blocks last year with 80.0 while also recording 23 digs, 65 kills (1.08 per set), and six service aces.
- In 2023, Wedbush led the Tigers in assists with 732, also recording a team-best 131 digs. Wedbush also notched a third-best 25 service aces on the season.
- Omene was also among the leaders for Princeton in three stat categories last season, recording a second-best 311 kills and 36 service aces while notching a fourth-best 77 digs.
- The Tigers are led by Sam Shweisky, who has coached the Tigers to 2 EIVA Championships and 6 EIVA Finals. Shweisky is in his 16th year as head coach of the Princeton men's volleyball program, and he is assisted by Joe Norton in his second year.
About NJIT
- NJIT is 6-2 overall and 1-0 in EIVA play after outlasting George Mason 3-2 last Friday.
- Wiktor Nowak leads the Highlanders in kills per set with 3.41. Bruno Figueiredo leads NJIT and the EIVA in assists with 10.46 per set.
- Defensively, Diego Lopez leads with 1.83 digs per set while Braeden Goebbert has 1.00 blocks per set. Goebbert is also second in the EIVA with a .488 hitting percentage.
- Princeton holds the 30-9 advantage all-time against NJIT, with the series dating back to 2002. The last meeting between the two sides was a Princeton win, 3-0, at home last April.
