How It Happened
Starting set one, the Tigers and Matadors began an even battle as neither side could develop a lead more than three points, nor sustain it as the set was tied six times before being knotted again at 18-18.
Again going point-for-point, kills from Omene and Rice helped the Tigers stay in it, taking the lead at 24-23 and 26-25. Three errors by the Tigers would close the set though, ending it 29-27 for CSUN.
Set two was also close with thirteen score ties throughout the set. Omene, with two kills late for a total of seven this set, gave the Tigers the lead 24-22. Still, just one away from set point, a 4-0 run by the Matadors would end the set 26-24 in CSUN's favor.
The Tigers put up a strong team-wide performance in the third set, producing a combined 13 kills with 0 errors for .684 hitting. While the set again started evenly between Princeton and CSUN, the Tigers rallied to maintain their narrow lead after the set was tied at 12 apiece. Despite scoring efforts from the matadors, three kills down the stretch by Omene and one from Mason Rice, who had six this set, would close the set in the Tigers' favor, 25-22.
Although Princeton looked to tie it up in the fourth, the Matadors began the set with a 5-0 run. Despite efforts to cut into the initial CSUN lead, the Tigers would fall short with the set ending 25-20 and calling the match 3-1 for the Matadors.
