No. 19 Princeton Drops Road Contest to #1 Long Beach State

LONG BEACH, CA. – Concluding its spring break travels, the no. 19 Princeton men's volleyball team fell 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 19-25) to no. 1 Long Beach State on Saturday night in California.
Nyherowo Omene led the Tigers with 15 kills on the night, while Henry Wedbush tallied a team-high 24 assists and seven digs.
Tristan Whitfield led the Tigers with four block assists on the night.
How It Happened
In set one, the Tigers started the match strong with .455 hitting percentage team-wide as Omene tallied a court-high seven kills. Despite the strong performance from the Tigers, they could not outpace the Beach, who had .526 hitting and three aces for 17 points on the set, and Long Beach State took set one, 25-19.
In set two, Princeton continued to battle it out with blocks making the difference as they tallied 5.5 total in the set. Jameson Vaccaro came up with a solo block down the stretch to bring the Tigers within three, before two more block assists by Whitfield and Wedbush brought the score to 21-22. Two more kills and a block by the Beach's Skye Varga would call the set for Long Beach, 25-22, though, giving them the two-set advantage.
Set three was another close bout between the Tigers and the Beach, with Princeton leading at 8-6, but a 4-0 run gave Long Beach the lead again. Ten more kills and .313 hitting helped Princeton stay on the Beach's tails, but the set would end 19-25 again, giving the #1 ranked Long Beach State the win 3-0.

Princeton will return home to Dillon Gym for a matchup with Daemen next Saturday, March 22nd at 1 p.m.
