No. 19 Princeton Completes Sweep of Sacred Heart

FAIRFIELD, CT. – The no. 19 Princeton men's volleyball team completed its sweep of the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Saturday, winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-15). With the win, Princeton improves to 9-9 overall and 5-1 in EIVA play.
Nyherowo Omene led the Tigers again with 12 kills, combined with five errors on 22 attempts for .318 hitting. The senior has now posted double-digit kills in his last twelve matches and 15 of 17 on the season. Omene also added three aces, three blocks and four digs for 16.5 points.
Henry Wedbush racked up a team-high 31 assists on the day.
Owen Mellon also had a highlight performance, logging seven kills, an ace, three digs and three blocks as the junior started and stuffed the stat sheet.
Ryan Vena posted nine kills and 0 errors on 11 attempts for .818 hitting, going along with five block assists.
How It Happened
The Tigers came out looking strong, building up an early lead at 7-2 with four Tigers earning kills along the way. Sacred Heart was able to chip away at the lead, bringing themselves within two and 11-9, but Princeton again took off with scoring led by two aces from Omene. SHU would not be able to outpace the Tigers, and Princeton would take the first set 25-16.
The Tigers were down as they started set two, chipping away at an early Pioneer lead. After trailing for the entirety of the set, Princeton took the lead at 11-10 with a big block by Omene and Wedbush. The Tigers followed it up with another block by Vena and Mellon. From there, Princeton went on a 7-0 run, putting the set out of reach of SHU. The Pioneers would get a few points back, but Princeton ultimately took the second set 25-17.
Set three followed a similar pattern, as the Tigers began the set trailing but were able to catch it early, knotting it at 5-5. The Tigers then took the lead with a Pioneer attack error, followed up by another ace from Omene.
Princeton took off onto another 8-1 run, leading by eight at 14-6. Despite Sacred Heart's attempts to climb back, the Tigers outpaced them and put the set out of their reach, taking the final set 25-15 and the match, 3-0.

- Princeton has now won its last three games.
- First-year Ethan Wells got the start and posted 5-1-8 hitting to be the second Tiger to have over .500 hitting on the day.
- The Tigers now lead the EIVA with a record of 5-1.
