Men's Hockey Edged In ECAC Opening Round At Brown, 3-2
March 07, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
The fight and compete was there from the Princeton men's hockey team right until the very final whistle of the 2024-25 season, but the Tigers were one goal short in a 3-2 loss to Brown in the Opening Round of the ECAC Championship.
The Tigers had led, 1-0, after one period but could not hold off the Bears who tied the game in the second before connecting for the game-winner 6:15 into the final period.
An empty-netter from Ryan St. Louis with 28.4 seconds to play provided insurance for the Bears.
That insurance was needed as Princeton did not go quietly and Kevin Anderson scored for the Tigers with 4.1 seconds to play and get Princeton within a goal. A miracle finish was needed, and Princeton had a brief glimmer of hope after winning the ensuing faceoff but were unable send a last salvo toward goal and time ran out on Ben Syer's first season as head coach
Jayden Sison and Kevin Anderson had the goals for Princeton, while Ian Devlin, Carson Buydens, Miles Gunty and Jaxson Ezman had assists.
Ethan Pearson stopped 22 shots and allowed two goals in his final game in net to cap his senior season.
The Bears pushed back, swarming on a power play late in the first period but unable to solve Ethan Pearson who made 10 saves in the first period – including a diving shoulder stop on an Ivan Zadvernyuk shot.
The Bears took a 2-1 lead 6:15 into the third period when Tyler Kopff broke down the right wing and cut to the net front before tucking in his eighth goal of the season inside the far post.
The Tigers pulled their goalie with 2:30 to play, and a bobbling puck at the blue line with less than a minute to play led to a breakaway for St. Louis to provide what turned out to be much needed insurance after Anderson scored with 4.1 seconds to play.
