Princeton Tops Brown, Clinches Ivy League Tournament Spot
April 12, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
The Princeton men's lacrosse team had 52 weeks to sit on the emotions of that long bus ride home from Providence after a 2024 loss to Brown. The rematch came Saturday afternoon and left the Tigers with a much different feeling.
Princeton got nine goals and eight assists from its starting attack — including a career high seven points from Nate Kabiri, and Ryan Croddick made 16 more saves to lead No. 3 Princeton to a 17-7 win over Brown in front of 1,336 fans at Sherrerd Field.
If that wasn't enough, the day got even better about an hour later, when Yale closed out Dartmouth and Harvard did the same to Penn, clinching an Ivy League tournament bid for the Tigers. In fact, the entire field is now set, remarkably with two weeks to go, as Cornell, Harvard and Yale will all join Princeton in the four-team field.
All of the good news from the game this year formed quite a contrast to a year ago, when Brown scored the first six goals of the game and then held off Princeton 13-12. That game ended when Kabiri's attempt to tie it was turned away as the final seconds ticked off.
This time, Kabiri had four goals and three assists, leaving the sophomore with 96 career points. Colin Burns had his fourth straight game with three goals while adding three assists, and Coulter Mackesy finished with two goals and two assists.
Brown scored the first goal of the day, and it was a 2-1 game midway through the first quarter. Would this be a repeat of a year ago? It all changed when Cooper Mueller ripped in a transition goal, his third of the year, sparking a Tiger run that saw the game go to 8-3 at halftime and 13-3 when Burns scored late in the third quarter.
Mueller finished with a goal, a caused turnover and four ground balls, giving him 10 CTs and 26GBs for the season and making him the sixth Princeton shortstick ever to have at least 10 and 20 in a season.
Carson Krammer had two goals and one assist, and Princeton got two goals from Tucker Wade and one each from Peter Buonanno, Braedon Saris and Jake Vana (the first of his career).
Next up for Princeton will be a trip to Penn this coming Saturday, followed by the regular season finale at home against Yale April 26.
