No. 19 Princeton Downs George Mason, 3-1

PRINCETON, N.J. – With Ryan Vena logging a career-high 11 blocks and a career-high 10 kills, the Princeton men's volleyball team downed George Mason at home on Friday night in Dillon Gym, 3-1 (25-19, 25-16, 25-27, 25-16). With the win, the Tigers improve to 10-9 on the season and 6-1 in the EIVA.

Vena posted 10-1-16 hitting for .563 on the night. The junior also added an ace, one solo block and 10 block assists.

Nyherowo Omene earned a team-high 18 kills, going 18-6-39 for .308 percent. Omene also notched two aces, adding to his career total of 129. Defensively, Omene recorded seven blocks and 11 digs.

Henry Wedbush dished out a season-best 46 assists during the match, also making one kill, two aces and five blocks.

How It Happened
The match began with the Tigers and the Patriots going point-for-point early, before two back to back blocks kickstarted a 4-1 Princeton run that resulted in an 11-7 lead.

George Mason was able to tie it back up with a run of their own, at 11-11 and again at 12-12. Princeton, however, replenished its lead with a series of 3-1 runs. Closing in on set point, two Patriot errors and a kill by Mason Rice called the first set in the Tigers' favor, 25-19.

Building on that momentum, the Tigers dominated in set two, taking the lead at 2-1 and keeping it for the remainder of the set.

Two more blocks by Vena, Owen Mellon and Mason Rice brought the Tigers to 4-1, before they doubled that lead with kills from Omene and Rice at 9-3. George Mason was able to bring itself within three halfway through the set, but the Tigers again took off into a 6-0 run to bring the score to 18-11. Staying focused and efficient, Princeton took the set 25-16.

Set three was close, as the Tigers trailed narrowly through a majority of the set. Going on a 5-0 run, Princeton was able to tie it up at 21-21, hoping to get the sweep. With each side trying to claim the set, the Tigers and the Patriots went point for point, with the set ending 27-25 in George Mason's favor.

Princeton looked to finish strong in set four, scoring in bursts of 3-0 runs to take the lead before jumping into a 6-0 run after 12-10. Down the stretch, two kills by Mellon and one by Wells helped the Tigers put the set out of George Mason's reach. With a fourth set score of 25-16, Princeton took the match 3-1.
