No. 3 Princeton Rolls Past Towson Into Quarterfinals; Mackesy Breaks Career Goals Record
May 10, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
On a day when every player on Sherrerd Field was a Tiger, there were some cats who stood out more than others. Consider:
Â
* Tucker Wade, with career highs of five goals and seven points
* Nate Kabiri, with a career-high tying five goals
* Colin Burns, with four goals of his own
* Andrew McMeekin, who won 20 of 32 face-offs with 10 ground balls, a goal and an assist
* and of course Coulter Mackesy, who broke Jesse Hubbard's carer goals record for Princeton men's lacrosse, with his 164th
Â
Add all that together, and the opening round of the NCAA tournament Saturday afternoon went to the Tigers of Princeton over the Tigers of Towson by a commanding 22-12 count in front of 1,736 at Sherrerd Field. The 22 goals tied Princeton's record for its highest total in an NCAA tournament game, matching the total of 22 against Towson in the 1996 quarterfinals.
Â
Â
Princeton led 4-1 after one quarter before Towson tied at 5-5. From there? It was all Tigers, the home ones. Princeton put up seven goals in the second quarter, leading 11-7 at the break, and then broke it open with a nine-goal third quarter.
Â
Mackesy had one goal, which came on a Kabiri assist, and then had four assists of his own. Mackesy now has 245 points, two away from Kevin Lowe for second all-time at Princeton.
Â
Â
Sean Cameron had three goals, and Peter Buonanno and Chad Palumbo also had three point days with one goal, two assists each. Cooper Mueller also had a goal in transition, his fifth of the year. Â

Third-seeded Princeton, who is now 33-17 all-time in the NCAA tournament, advances to the quarterfinals to take on the winner of Sunday's game (face-off at 5) between sixth seed Syracuse and Harvard. That game will be part of a doubleheader at Hofstra that will also feature Richmond against the winner of Sunday's game between Cornell and Albany.COULTER MACKESY BREAKS THE ALL-TIME CAREER GOAL RECORD IN SCHOOL HISTORY?????? pic.twitter.com/rrLg9exUgF

Wade scored Princeton's first goal for the sixth time in 16 games this year and had three in the first quarter. Kabiri now has eight goals in two career NCAA games, and those two became the first Princeton teammates to each have five or more goals in an NCAA game. They also combined to shoot 10 for 12 on the day.KABIRI STINGS THE CORNER TO BEAT THE SHOT CLOCK AND GET THE TIGERS TO 13. pic.twitter.com/29OU2L8gFV
