The Princeton men's lacrosse team finished the 2025 season one goal short of a return to Championship Weekend, falling 19-18 to Syracuse in Saturday's quarterfinal round at Hofstra.
The loss ended Princeton's season at 13-4, with all four losses coming to teams who are playing in Foxboro this coming weekend. Princeton spent the entire season ranked in the top seven nationally and was the No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament.
Along the way, Princeton had many team and individual accomplishments, including:
* The Princeton Class of 2025 became the first since the Class of '04 to play in four NCAA tournaments. This class went to one Final Four and another quarterfinal, won two Ivy tournaments and had a four-year record of 43-21, including 8-5 in postseason games.
* Coulter Mackesy finished his career as Princeton's all-time leader in goals scored with 167 and Princeton's single-season leader in goals scored with 55 in 2023. Mackesy also had 81 assists, giving him 248 career points, second-best all-time in program history.
* Nate Kabiri's 32 goals and 29 assists made him the first Princeton player ever with at least 30 goals and 25 assists as both a freshman and sophomore. Kabiri finished his sophomore year with 119 career points (65G, 54A), behind only Michael Sowers (163) and Coulter Mackesy (121) for the most points by a Princeton player after sophomore year.
* Princeton had five players with at least 27 goals, a first in program history. The five: Coulter Mackesy (44), Nate Kabiri (32), Colin Burns (29), Chad Palumbo (28), Tucker Wade (27).
* Chad Palumbo tied the program record for goals in an NCAA tournament game with six against Syracuse, joining Chris Massey (twice), Jesse Hubbard and Coulter Mackesy.
* Princeton scored 234 goals on the season, the third-best total in program history. Princeton has had four of its top eight goal scoring seasons in the four full seasons that Jim Mitchell has been the offensive coordinator.
* Michael Bath finished his career with 65 caused turnovers, third-best in Princeton history.
* Andrew McMeekin became the first Princeton player with two seasons of more than 100 ground balls and the third to reach 400 career face-off wins. McMeekin became the first Princeton face-off man to finish over .500 in consecutive seasons since Alex Berg in 2007 and 2008.
* Cooper Mueller finished the season with six goals, 12 caused turnovers and 36 ground balls. No other Princeton shortstick has ever had those numbers without ever taking a face-off; the only one besides Mueller to do so while taking face-offs is Zach Currier, who did it three times.
* Peter Buonanno, the unanimous Ivy League Rookie of the Year, had four goals and five assists in two NCAA tournament games — that's 31 percent of his season's point total in two NCAA games.
