Princeton Earns No. 3 Seed, Will Host Towson In NCAA Opener Saturday At 2:30
May 04, 2025 | Men's Lacrosse
The quiet of the bus ride home from the Ivy League tournament turned to cheering and smiles for the Princeton men's lacrosse team when the NCAA selections were announced Sunday night.
A few hours after a tough 20-15 loss to Cornell in the Ivy final, the Tigers found out that they'll be the No. 3 seed in the NCAA field and will open against ... the Tigers, the ones from Towson, who won the CAA championship. The game will be played Saturday at 2:30 on Sherrerd Field, with tickets on sale beginning Monday at 10 am.
Princeton has reached the NCAA tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
Princeton and Towson have played three times prior, all of which have also been NCAA tournament games. Towson defeated Princeton 14-13 in triple overtime in the 1991 quarterfinals, and Princeton then won 22-6 in the 1996 quarterfinals and 12-11 in the 2001 semifinals.
The winner of the game between Princeton and Towson will take on the winner of sixth-seeded Syracuse and Harvard in the quarterfinals at Shuart Stadium at Hofstra University the weekend of the 17th/18th.
Cornell is the No. 1 seed, followed by No. 2 Maryland and then Princeton. The Tigers (the Princeton ones) had their eight game winning streak snapped Sunday afternoon by the Big Red.
The Tigers from Towson started their season at 1-5 but have won 10 straight since. They are coached by Shawn Nadelen, a former Princeton assistant coach.
The NCAA pairings:
Albany/Siena winner at No. 1 Cornell
Richmond at No. 8 North Carolina
Notre Dame at No. 4 Ohio State
Colgate at No. 5 Penn State
Towson at No. 3 Princeton
Harvard at No. 6 Syracuse
Georgetown at No. 7 Duke
Robert Morris/Air Force winner at No. 2 Maryland
